Creating your first segment

Old school email marketing tools used static lists to manage your subscribers. Vero does things differently and encourages you to store data and track activity to a single profile per user, and then build dynamic Segments of users based on properties or activity that they have in common. This means you never double up data or have to manage multiple lists again.

Follow these steps to create an example 'Active Customers’ segment to use in your email campaigns.

1. Create a new segment

Navigate to the Segments section and hit the New Segment button.

2. Name your segment

Give your segment an appropriate name. Here we'll use 'Active Customers'.

3. Add a condition

Add a condition that checks for users who have tracked the event ‘sign_up’ more than once in the last 2 weeks.

Note that in this scenario, ‘sign_up’ is a triggered event which could be setup using our event tracking javascript snippet to fire every time a customer signs up.

4. Adding a second condition (optional)

If you wanted, you could add more conditions to make your segment event more targeted. To keep things simple, we're just going to use one condition for now. However, adding a second condition to target a more specific group of users is easy, just click 'Add condition' and choose another set of conditions. There's no limit to what you can do.

5. Save your segment

You're all set. Press the ‘Save Segment’ button and wait for a few moments while it calculates. Once finished, you can view the list of customers in the segment.

You can now use this segment using the 'is in segment' condition in other segments or in a newsletters or workflows.
