Managing Segments
Segments provide powerful management capabilities to help you organize, monitor, and maintain your audience targeting. You can refresh segments to see the latest data, check where segments are being used across your campaigns and workflows, archive segments you may need later, or permanently delete segments and their associated profiles. Understanding these options helps you keep your segments organized and performing efficiently.
Refreshing segments
Segments show results from the last refresh. To see the latest data:
- Open the segment and click Refresh at the top of the page, or click Refresh from the actions menu in the segments list.
- Wait for the progress indicator to complete.
- Review the updated profile count and list.
Vero displays the last refresh time so you know how current your data is.
Important: You cannot edit segment conditions while a refresh is in progress. Wait for the calculation to complete before making further changes.
When you don't need to manually refresh:
- Before campaigns – Vero automatically refreshes segments when a campaign is sent
- In Journeys – Segments used in branch logic refresh automatically when customers reach that decision point
Understanding segment usage
Before deleting or making major changes to a segment, check where it's being used:
- Open the segment or click Show usage from the ••• menu
- Review the usage panel to see:
- Campaigns – Which campaigns target this segment, and a link to each segment
- Segments – Which other segments reference this one.
Important: Segments actively used in campaigns, workflows, or other segments cannot be deleted until you remove them from all references.
Archiving and deleting segments
- Archive when you're not currently using a segment but might need it later. Archived segments don't appear in the main list but remain available in usage references and can be unarchived at any time. When campaigns or other segments reference an archived segment, it will still refresh to provide up-to-date results.
- Delete when you're certain you won't need the segment again. Deletion is permanent and requires removing the segment from all campaigns and other segments first.
Deleting users in a segment
You can delete all user profiles that meet a segment's criteria. This action is irreversible and permanently removes the profiles from your account. From any segment page, click the ••• actions menu and select Delete Profiles...
Warning: Deleting users removes all their data including subscription status. If they're identified again later, they'll be marked as subscribed.
